Club Captain's Welcome for 2012

University A, 2010 Premier Winners | University B, 2010 Premier II Winners |
I am pleased to welcome all new and returning players to the Otago University Rugby Football Club ('OURFC') for the 2012 season.
Our 2011 season was a season of rebuilding after the departure of twenty-six of
our senior players back to their home provinces, or off overseas, after
finishing their studies at the end of 2010. Normally loosing such a large number of senior players
would decimate a club but Rugby is so strong at OURFC that, despite loosing so
many valuable players, OURFC was still competitive in the Metro Competition in
2011 and we look forward to once again competiting for the banner in 2012.
Honours for the 2011 Season Include:
All Blacks: Adam Thomson
New Zealand Universities: Rob Verbarkel, Paul Grant, Guy Schwikkard, Paul Hessian (Coach),
Peter Thomson (Manager), Karl Hotham (Team Physiotherapist)
New Zealand Universities Under 21: Harry Corkill, Sam Hall

While the University prides itself on its academic excellence, OURFC prides itself on its rugby excellence. We have an unrivalled record both in Dunedin club rugby and nationally
with more All Blacks than any other club in NZ. Our high calibre of coaches for the 2012 season for all our teams will help you reach your potential as a rugby player.
Most importantly we are a students rugby club. The OURFC is immersed in student
culture. Playing your rugby at our club is just part of the unparalleled student experience
that you can have in Dunedin. We are the only club in Dunedin where, as a student, you can
represent your country because you are eligible for selection in the New Zealand
Universities team. I am confident that your time playing rugby at OURFC will be
one of the more memorable experiences of your university days.
